What Can I Expect From Unwanted Growth Removal?

Most moles and lesions do not need treatment unless they become suspicious or cancerous, or if they cause discomfort, irritation, or cosmetic problems. In these situations, Dr. Kang may recommend removal. For surgical excision, the region around the mole will be numbed with a local anesthetic, and a scalpel or similar device is used to eliminate the mole and a bit of the surrounding skin cells. The wound will then be closed with stitches. Sometimes, when the mole or lesion is at the surface level, a surgical shave could be performed where the region is numbed and a small blade is used to cut around and beneath the target tissue. Stitches aren't required for this procedure. Dr. Kang may also recommend laser treatments, cryosurgery or electrosurgery to minimize symptoms or the appearance of lesions.
